Are you a car enthusiast looking for an in-depth comparison between two Mazda SUVs? Well, you're in luck! In this article, we'll be exploring the key differences between the 2023 Mazda CX-9 and the all-new 2024 Mazda CX-90. While both vehicles share a few similarities, such as their innovative technology features, they also have some unique features that set them apart from each other. Notably, one of the most significant differences is their powertrains, with the CX-9 utilizing a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and the CX-90 having three electrified powertrains.

Additionally, the prices of the two models also vary, making it imperative to know the differences before making a decision. Keep reading to learn more about these two amazing SUVs and how to decide which one is right for you.

Powertrains

When it comes to powertrains, the 2024 Mazda CX-90 and 2023 Mazda CX-9 could not be more different. The CX-90 offers three new electrified powertrain options, including an e-Skyactiv G 3.3L Turbo, an e-Skyactiv PHEV, and an e-Skyactiv G 3.3L Inline 6 high-output Turbo, which is equipped with the most potent mass-produced gasoline engine developed by Mazda. This engine has an output of up to 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque when using premium fuel.

In contrast, the CX-9 comes with a Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission as standard. It delivers 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque, and all models come with Mazda's exclusive i-Activ AWD system. Simply put, while the CX-9 offers a reliable and competent engine, the CX-90 offers an array of high-performance and fuel-efficient powertrain options to suit different driving needs.

Dimensions

Although Mazda has not yet revealed the exact dimensions of the CX-90, we can understand that it will be longer and wider than the CX-9 due to other interior design changes compared to it. Both vehicles provide ample cabin space for passengers but there is an advantage when it comes to passenger volume on the larger model – perfect for families looking for more space or drivers who frequently have extra passengers on board.

Price Difference

The 2023 CX-9 starts at $42,050, while the all-new CX-90 starts at $45,900 – making it slightly pricier than its predecessor but still relatively affordable, considering its impressive list of features.

When deciding between these two crossovers from Mazda, consider what powertrains and features matter most to you – as well as how much space is needed for your family or friends – before deciding which one best suits your needs and budget.
