2021 Mazda3 Turbo vs. 2020 Hyundai Elantra

It's rare that a vehicle receives awards such as World Car Design of the Year, but the Mazda3 has achieved that and more. With its addictive styling, nimble performance and technologies owners love, the Mazda3 is a Canadian favourite. Mazda asked owners what they could improve on the Mazda3, and the response was the Mazda3 Turbo.

No competitor offers the same performance under the hood, but the Mazda3 Turbo has a lot more than just power to offer. Here, we compare the Turbo to the Hyundai Elantra.

The Mazda3 Turbo is mechanically unchallenged

In the heart of the Turbo is a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder. It delivers a 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque on premium octane gasoline. Even with regular octane 87 octane, you will experience nearly 230 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. This engine is also specifically calibrated to the Turbo and always provides access to a spirited driving experience.

The Hyundai Elantra supplies two engine options. Supplied in most trims, a 2.0 L four-cylinder peaks at 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. This falls far short of the Turbo's performance.

However, Hyundai makes a last attempt at putting forward a competitive engine. The Sport trim experiments with a turbocharged 1.6 L four-cylinder that generates 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. With a lot less horsepower and torque reduced by 115-125 lb-ft, it just doesn't move up to the Turbo's class.

The Mazda3 Turbo is more than just a performer

All Elantra models only have front-wheel drive. FWD doesn't exist in the Turbo line. Each trim features Subaru's i-Active AWD, an advanced system that intelligently senses the road and distributes torque where it's needed. That's not only an asset on any spirited drive, providing a more dynamic experience, it also provides peace of mind when experiencing changing road and weather conditions.

Each Turbo model features Subaru's suite of i-Activesense safety technologies. They also provide more peace of mind, whether you are taking a quick trip to the store or going on a long-distance vacation. The Turbo takes a leap forward when the optional Premium Package is added. It includes brand-new safety technologies such as Traffic Jam Assist, Smart Brake Support, and much more.

The 2021 Mazda3 Turbo is the best option in the segment. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.
