The Mazda3 has been one of the most popular compact vehicles in Canada ever since it launched back in 2004.

The Mazda3 has been one of the most popular compact vehicles in Canada ever since it launched back in 2004. The Mazda3’s sportiness is certainly to blame given that Mazda’s compact vehicles is one of the most fun to drive and dynamic models in its class. That said, the competition is pretty fierce in that class, and Mazda had to make sure they stayed relevant.

That’s why the Japanese automaker introduced the new 2017 Mazda3 a short time ago. Although it may not look like it, the new Mazda3 currently has a host of changes. Here are the 10 things you need to know about the 2017 Mazda3.

  1. The engine is the same

There are a lot of new features in the 2017 Mazda3, but one thing that doesn’t change is the engine, or shall we say the engines. The base engine is a SKYACTIV-G 2.0L 4-cylinder with 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque while the GT is powered by a SKYACTIV-G 2.5L 4-cylinder that delivers 184 horsepower.

  1. There are still two versions

There are two versions of the 2017 Mazda3. The first is the sedan while the Sport model is the hatchback version. As you will see below, the hatchback model certainly stands out in terms of interior space.

  1. The Mazda3 features G-Vectoring Control

Now we get to the good stuff. The 2017 Mazda3 is the first Mazda to feature G-Vectoring Control, which is part of a new suite of technology called SKYACTIV Vehicle Dynamics. G-Vectoring Control uses the engine’s torque to improve overall handling and comfort at low speeds.

  1. What does G-Vectoring do?

There are a lot of technical aspects to G-Vectoring, but ultimately the driver will notice that the steering wheel is a lot more stable on the highway, and that body movements felt by passengers on the road are much more controlled. In other words, you aren’t moving around as much and you are a lot more comfortable.

  1. The design has changed somewhat

The 2017 Mazda3 features a few revisions to its exterior design including an all-new grill, a redesigned rear bumper and new headlights. The interior is also different with an overall more refined look including a different heads-up display, new steering wheel and revised dashboard. There is also more insulation to make the 2017 Mazda3 more comfortable. Plus, buyers can get get a heated steering wheel starting with the GS version, a as always it features a host of active safety features found in Mazda’s I-Activesense system.
