Mazda was once again honoured by AJAC this year with three redesigned vehicles of the brand finding themselves at the top of their respective segments. The three winners were the Mazda MX-5, the all-new Mazda CX-5 and the three-row Mazda CX-9.
With the three titles won this year and another three titles last year, Mazda is consolidating its position as the most recognized brand by the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada in the industry.
"Mazda did it again in 2019 with three significant from AJAC. Winning in one category is a great achievement and winning in two categories is exceptional. Winning a prize in three categories is clear evidence that Mazda vehicles are exactly what Canadians want to drive this year. "
Let's take a look at the three Mazda models that stood out among AJAC journalists.
The Mazda CX-5 has received several improvements this year starting with a new 2.5-liter turbocharged engine developing 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. This engine allows the CX-5 to offer more torque than any other compact SUV in its segment.
The Mazda CX-5 also saw its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine receive several improvements. Modifications include the addition of a cylinder deactivation system that reduces the fuel consumption of the CX-5 by about 30% in the city.
The Mazda CX-9 has been crowned best SUV in its class with several enhancements to its list of standard or optional equipment like the Apple CarPlay system or the Android Auto system for better connectivity. The CX-9 also gets better soundproofing, ventilated seats and a panoramic sunroof.
The MX-5 is a true legend of the automotive industry and for 2019, it receives a more powerful engine that delivers 181 horsepower. The Mazda MX-5 has never been recognized for its straight-line performance, but the now more powerful engine will achieve the same level of sportiness when accelerating than when cornering.
